My New Kitchen Aid!!

I’ve been doing The Five-Dollar Savings Plan (learn more about that at this link) for over a year now…I’ve been saving up for a Classic Kitchen Aid! I love to bake, so it’s always been a dream of mine to own my own Kitchen Aid…

It basically felt like I was getting it for free…because the amount in my bank account stayed the same…it was all from the shadow box on my wall! That’s the beauty of The Five-Dollar Savings Plan. I can spend money on myself once a year without feeling bad about it!

Here’s the story:

About a month ago I was at Costco with  my brother Ethan. We were on the appliances aisle because he was looking for a juicer, and I saw a Classic Kitchen Aid for only $199!!! I was super stoked, because I was up to $185 with my $5 savings plan, so I knew I could get it within the next couple months!

So I kept on saving and saving…well, mostly waiting…

And this weekend I got it!

034

Somehow I lost count, because it turns out there was only $205 in there…but that’s okay because what I was about to buy was only $200…and I can afford a bit of tax.

So I grabbed my 2 good friends Kelsey and Makenzie, and we went to Costco!

039

Come to find out…they don’t have it anymore. They only had the Professional Kitchen Aid for like $350. I even asked an employee…he checked the system and everything…nada.

I left feeling very depressed and rejected.

046

But then decided to call around….

047Williams-Sonoma had a Classic Kitchen Aid for about $350, with a $30 mail-in rebate. NO THANK YOU.
I called 2 more Costco locations…and they didn’t have it either…LAME.
Then I called Wal-Mart…and they had a Classic Kitchen Aid for $199!

So naturally, we rushed there…

048

And I think the pictures can tell the next part of the story…

Chris was a very nice lady who was workin’ the lucky register today! (We avoided the self-checkout…I didn’t want to put 41 $5 bills into the cash receiver thing….headache!)

Chris could tell that I was in a VERY good mood, and I explained why…I explained the Five Dollar Savings Plan and that I’d been saving for about 14 months…and I finally got my dream! She thought it was one of the coolest things ever, and told the lady behind her about me. I felt pretty cool.

Me and Kelsey!

056

Me and Makenzie!

057

Then I dropped off those two wonderful ladies at school (UVU) and went home to play with my new toy!

060

I was SO HAPPY!!! Here’s what I made…

Want to know what kind of cupcakes those are? Well….you might want to sit down…it’s pretty weird. Ok, ready?

Melted Crayon Art

Total cost: $8 (canvas and Crayola crayons)

Total time: 1 hour and a few minutes (from start to finish)

My friend Samantha needed a ride to Hobby Lobby to get some supplies for an art project she was doing…so I of course gave her a ride…and joined her in the adventure of doing the art project! Ours each turned out a bit differently, so I will be able to show you how to do it either way! The exciting things is that it will turn out different each time you do it!

The inspiration for this Melted Crayon Art project came from Pinterest…but as far as exactly how to do it, I used these websites…

I didn’t like the look of this one with the wrappers off the crayons.

This is another one with the wrappers off that I didn’t like.

I provided those links just in case you like them better with the wrappers off….you can go there for instructions!

I LOVED the way this one looks.

Ok so here’s how we did it….

We used 58 crayons for each canvas.

We used a 15×20 canvas

Start time: 9:30pm

The supplies you will need include:

  • Canvas (we bought a two pack at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon! Sign up for the weekly Hobby Lobby e-mails to get deals mailed to you each week!)
  • Crayola crayons (I only like Crayola) (We bought them at Wal-mart)
  • Hair dryer (we had two because we had 2 people)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Newspaper (enough to cover working surface)
  • Scotch tape (to tape the newspaper together when it starts flying everywhere from the hair dryers)
Let’s get started!
 1. Lay out the crayons in the pattern you want them!
This is the beginning of mine…
Lay them out lower than the top of the canvas so that when you go to glue them, you don’t have to move them out of the way!
Time check: 9:34pm

Samantha was struggling choosing a pattern…she ended up just choosing mine….it was good-looking!

2. Time to hot glue them on!
Time check: 9:42pm
Here’s the best technique for gluing…put a lot of glue in a few inches of space across the canvas and then put a few crayons over that place. WORK QUICKLY!
I didn’t glue them on straight because they weren’t all the exact same as far as where the wrappers were placed on the crayon…some had more sticking out at the top than others. So I staggered the crayons. But I did try to make sure that the side of the crayon that said “Crayola” was facing the top.
I DON’T suggest doing them one at a time…it takes too long. Also, don’t put glue all the way across and then put the crayons on, because the glue will be dry by the time you get to it…
Time check: 9:49pm
3. Lay newspaper all over the floor (or whatever working space you are using. You will want to use something to lean the canvas against so it can stand upright at an angle…gravity will help the crayon art be created! We leaned them against the frame of my butterfly chair.

4. Melt the crayons! Turn the hair dryer on high and go across the crayons! Hold it it one spot to get it going.

This is when I realized that the hair dryer was blowing the newspaper up and it was exposing the carpet on the floor…so I simply took the scotch tape and taped the newspaper down to itself so it would stay put!

Time check: 9:58pm
Time check: 10:02pm
Samantha was able to keep hers flowing straight down in lines by holding the hair dryer directly on the crayons.
Time check: 10:03pm
Time check: 10:07pm
I held my hair dryer at more of an angle, which caused it to splash more, which is how I got the splash marks at the bottom of the canvas, and it’s also why my colors ran together.
Time check: 10:12pm
Time check: 10:13pm
Time check: 10:30pm

My completed canvas!

Samantha’s completed canvas!
Time check: 10:32pm
And of course, it is necessary to clean up at the end….but that was fast and easy!
Time check: 10:34pm
And there you have it. A simple, cheap ($8) project! And it only takes an hour! Enjoy! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me, and I will try my best to answer!

Chloe’s Closet: Day 78

Sheridan took these pics as I was outside doing homework!

Do you like my Hannah Montana shirt? I do! I don’t remember where it’s from, I’ve had it for quite some time…probably from Wal-Mart, though.

Do you like my Converse? I sure do! They’re from my mommy!

Oh and do you like my shorts? I don’t remember where they’re from either…sorry. But it’s not like you care. So I’m not sorry.

Chloe’s Closet: Day 56

Today was turquoise/purple day!

Jenna and I made chocolate covered strawberries! Well, Jenna was the mommy that made them, and I was the kid with a short attention span that helped out. But I did get to partake of the delicious goodness! And boy, they sure were delicious! I put sprinkles on some of them, like a true kid would.

Can you tell that they were delicious?

Hmm…well if that last picture of me taking a bite did not convince you of the deliciousness, how about this picture Jenna got of me being blissfully happy?

Okay so then…Jenna took this whole outfit picture of me…I’ve got what’s left of my strawberry and I’ve also got Jordan’s paddle…

My dress is the Faded Glory brand, and I love it! It’s from Wal-Mart…it’s really old… The undershirt is a Half Tee…the scarf is one of the free ones I got from Kohl’s! Don’t remember what I’m talking about? Go here: https://byuflamingo.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/chloes-closet-day-4/

And then I was sitting on the couch. And Jordan was on the other couch. And we were both listening to Kenzie. And I took pictures of my awesome shoes.

The clear Converse if one of the 2 pairs of shoes I’ve ever paid full price for. Limited edition, gotta love ’em! Oh, and don’t mind the almost-hole in the heel of the purple sock…due to the fact that my shoe is clear, you can see my almost-holey sock. Anyways, the other shoe is one of the CHEAPEST pairs of Converse I’ve ever bought! And one of my favorites! $2.50 ($5 for the pair) at Famous Footwear! Gotta love clearance and BOGO!

And then I was about to get ready for bed when I realized I wanted to show you all my cool hair. I think this is my new favorite way of doing my hair….messy bun with random clips and curls!

Chloe’s Closet: Day 37

Today I was walking to class, and I saw Elisabeth. And she said we made a pumpkin together! So I said I’d come by later and we’d get pumpkin pictures! So when I got home I went to do it, but she wasn’t there. So she came upstairs when she got home…and Jenna took our pumpkin pictures!

Get it? I’m the pumpkin…she’s the stem/leaf!

And then we did a reverse pumpkin….she was the pumpkin, and I was the stem/leaf!

And then I crushed her…

And then we sat on the couch!

And this is my outfit….
The shirt, Sheila got it for me! It’s from Coldwater Creek!
The jeans I’ve had for a few years…from American Eagle.
The undershirt is from Down East Basics.
The bracelets….2 of them I made, 2 of them are just old.
The socks….they were free…I got them from a mystery shop!
The headband old and it’s from…uhm…..Target? Wal-Mart? I don’t remember…..
The necklace I got for 1 pound when I went to England!
The shoes are from my mommy =)
The orange shoe laces I got from doing a mystery shop…it was free!
